SIN TÍTULO (I WOULD PREFER NO TO) - LUCÍA C PINO_____________#641 SED 2012 VIDEOART
Sin título (i would prefer not to) es una instalación que comprende una estructura que alberga el equipo de reproducción y de sonido en el que se proyecta un vídeo. Este trabajo no tiene título pero tiene un subtítulo, la conocida frase de Herman Melville de Bartleby el Escribiente. El argumento parece sencillo, la respuesta inicial de Bartleby "preferiría no…", a modo de mantra resulta parte esencial del carácter de "resistencia pasiva". En ese punto la artista encuentra el motivo para proponer la reconstrucción de unos hechos irrelevantes a partir de un foto reportaje encontrado de los años cuarenta (la hoja de una revista del corazón). Se trata de una variación sobre un trabajo que ya existe. En el vídeo, se da cierta importancia a un texto que no es posible leer. Como si se tratase de una redundancia jocosa, a partir de palabras sueltas y de una sucesión de imágenes, el público puede recomponer un relato que seguramente será distinto en cada caso y no se corresponderá con la realidad ni con lo que la revista que lo publicó quiso significar (probablemente las excelencias de una persona famosa de la época). En éste sentido se genera una especie de abismo de la comunicación, o un ruido si entendemos como tal la diferencia entre lo que pretendían los editores de la época (que no difiere de lo que pretenden los editores de este tipo de publicaciones hoy día) y el resultado final, que en ocasiones como ésta, genera el efecto contrario al previsto. El paisaje que se crea en la instalación remite a un lugar familiar pero radicalmente distinto al entorno que propone la imagen de origen de la publicación filmada.
Sin título (i would prefer not to) is an installation within a structure, with a video and sound system. This work has not title but a subtitle, the sentence by Melville's ,Bartleby the Scrivener. The plot seems easy, Bartleby's initial response "I would prefer not to," it becomes a mantra, a suggestion as essential part of the character of "passive resistance" From that start point I do a variation on a previous media work (from yellow journalism). There is a text but not possible to read it. From single words and a sequence of images, the audience can to rebuild up a story that will be different in each case and will not has correspondance with the real facts or with what the magazine that published wanted to mean (probably the excellences of a celebrity of that time). In this sense, this proposal wants to insist into the idea of communication gap or noise if we understand it as the difference between what intended the publisher at that time (not materially different than intended by the editors of this type of publications today) and the final result, which on occasions like this, generates the opposite effect to the intended. The ambient in the instalation could seems a familiar place but it is radically different of that one proposed by the original image of the paper on the film.
